It is becoming increasingly clear that many developing countries, including Ghana, will find it difficult to achieve all the targets of the Millennium Development Goals by the year 2015. The challenges are well documented. Weak health systems exacerbated by continuing challenges in developing and retaining the requisite human resource for health have contributed to the current level of performance of the health sector in many developing countries. To overcome these challenges, the need for a faster and effective way to generate knowledge, share knowledge and translate knowledge into effective and affordable interventions and strategies that make health care accessible to the most needy and vulnerable people in our societies is urgently needed.

A systematic review of Demographic and Health Surveys: data availability and utilization for research
The Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) project, funded primarily by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) with support from other donors and host countries, has conducted over 230 nationally representative and internationally comparable household surveys in more than 80 countries since its inception in 1984. The purpose of this study is to quantify the extent to which DHS data have been used in peer-reviewed research publications and trends in such use over time. Findings from the study will contribute to a better understanding of how DHS data have been transformed into information and made available for policy and programmatic use.Jump in.
