The BID Learning Network invites you to watch a webinar panel discussion on “The Design, Development and Deployment of an Electronic Immunization Registry in Vietnam: Reflections, Guidance and Global Comparison.” The Introducing Digital Immunization information systems – Exchange And Learning from Vietnam (IDEAL-Vietnam) is a PATH project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation which has been working closely with Vietnam’s Ministry of Health in facilitating a successful transition from paper records to a completely paperless immunization record system. IDEAL Vietnam has been documenting the successes scored, challenges encountered and sharing evidence-based and data-driven learning and experience from Vietnam to inform, influence, and accelerate the successful implementation of similar tools in other countries and contexts. In this panel discussion the panelists will discuss lessons learned from Vietnam in the deployment of an electronic immunization registry (EIR) from design and development right through to national scale-up. The panelists will share the key drivers and barriers to successful deployment of EIRs while underscoring the importance of government commitment and stakeholder partnerships. PRESENTERS
Dr. Dang Thi Thanh Huyen
Dr. Dang Thi Thanh Huyen is the Vice Head of the National Expanded Program on Immunization (NEPI)/National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, Vietnam. Dr. Huyen has over 20 years of experience with the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) in Vietnam. She serves as technical leader for data reporting in country, and as a leader for technical issues within the EPI at all levels. She works diligently to ensure end-users are represented in determining requirements within the system and oversees the input and outcomes of the entire National Immunization Information System (NIIS). Dr. Huyen was a crucial contributor in the implementation of the NIIS.
Dr. Nguyen Tuyet Nga
Dr. Nguyen Tuyet Nga is the Vietnam Country Director for PATH’s Vietnam office. She leads a broad portfolio of projects that focus on vaccines and immunization; infectious diseases including HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria; noncommunicable diseases, disease surveillance and antimicrobial resistance; and health systems strengthening through the use of digital tools, improved data and data use culture, and a focus on supporting the development of primary health care. She has been leading the digital health initiative for supporting MOH in Vietnam to develop national immunization information system for almost 10 years.
Mr. Dao Dinh Sang
Mr. Dao Dinh Sang is a Program Officer in PATH’s Vietnam office. Mr. Sang has almost 15 years of experience in public health, working with both international and Vietnamese government stakeholders. Sang has worked at PATH since 2010 as a program officer for a variety of projects under the Vaccine and Immunization team. He is one of the first team members to work on digital health solutions in Vietnam and has been the technical lead for the digital health components of various projects. His efforts have resulted in several different digital health information systems being developed, piloted and scaled up, in partnership with key government and private sector partners.
Ms. Maya Rivera
Maya Rivera is a Communications Officer for the PATH Vietnam office. Her work focuses on the dissemination of key lessons learned from the IDEAL-Vietnam project, creating guidance stemmed from the Vietnam experience with electronic immunization registries for audiences worldwide. Maya also supports other projects within the Vaccine and Immunization Unit.
Catherine Muyawala
Catherine Muyawala is the BID Learning Network Community Coordinator at PATH. She is a knowledge management specialist with over 20 years of experience in information management including coordinating communities of practice. She has held various knowledge management related portfolios in diverse sectors including public health.
