The BID Initiative team works across three countries in the United States, Tanzania and Zambia. This week, we learn more about Laurie Werner, Deputy Director in Seattle.
How do you define your role? I work closely with Liz Peloso, BID Global Director, on the management of the overall initiative, and specifically oversee the operations, finances, monitoring and evaluation, and work with our global partners. I lead the Seattle-based team that provides support to the country offices and the country teams, and lead the overall workplan development and milestone tracking of the full initiative.
When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time? Read the news and catch up with what’s going on in the world. Preferably while I’m snuggling with my two kitties (Jack and Leo)!
What’s your favorite indoor/outdoor activity? My passion currently is cooking and I’m working with a friend to do some catering (in our spare time!). I love cooking meals for family, friends, or my husband Peter (my favorite taste tester).
What do you like most about your job? I love working with people from many different countries and cultures, and building the team effort to meet our goals and make sure we are all on the same page to get there.
Where was your favorite vacation? This one is hard to choose but I think I’d pick my vacation to the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific (Ecuador). We were on a boat for a week and had daily excursions to see the animals on the islands and in the water. This and a safari in Tanzania were both amazing experiences.
What are your hobbies? I love to cook, work in my yard and garden, go hiking, do yoga, knit, and read.
“I have had the pleasure to work with Laurie now for a few years. Her organization, dedication, and attention to detail have been responsible for a great deal of our progress to date. She is a wonderful teammate, always there to offer help any way she can. She helps bring out the best in all of us.” – Liz Peloso, BID Global Director, Zambia
