Emily

The BID Initiative team works across three countries in the United States, Tanzania, and Zambia. This week, we learn more about Emily Carnahan, Monitoring and Evaluation Lead from the Seattle office.

What is your role on BID?  As an M&E Officer based in Seattle, I work closely with our in-country M&E Leads, Robert and Kalenga, to coordinate the monitoring and evaluation of the BID Initiative. Initially this included the development of an M&E framework, indicators, and data collection tools. As we move into implementation, the M&E team’s role is shifting to focus on data collection and management, data analysis, and results interpretation and reporting. I also work closely with our external evaluator, Mott MacDonald, to ensure their evaluation activities are aligned with our implementation.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?  A photographer for National Geographic – so I could travel the world and take amazing photos.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?  I wish I could speak every language fluently (The Arusha team was helping me practice Swahili when I was there!).

What is one of your favorite quotes? “The simple things are also the most extraordinary things, and only the wise can see them.” – from one of my favorite books, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.

What is your favorite food? Cheese.

What’s your favorite indoor/outdoor activity?  I love hiking.  There are so many great trails around Seattle so a couple friends and I made a pact to go hiking together at least one weekend a month to make sure we’re taking advantage of Washington’s great outdoors.

“Emily has provided enormous support in the establishment of the BID Initiative M&E system and providing country-specific support. I’ve had the privilege of working with her for about a year now and in that time I have known Emily as a very supportive and reputable person with vision, diligence and honor-someone who gets things done! She is a personable individual that gets along well with those around her. It is always a pleasure having her on our BID Initiative M&E team-well done and keep it up Emily! “- Robert Kindoli, M&E Lead, Tanzania

  1. I am a new recruit -temporary stuff and this blog has provided me opportunity to get to know some of BID stuff members in a detailed personal information. I have already met some of them and Emily is one of them, I can’t really say more about her but I think I have plenty to learn from her and I think she is a great person.
