Fwasa Singogo

The BID Initiative team works across three countries in the United States, Tanzania, and Zambia. This week, we learn more about Dr. Fwasa Singogo, BID Zambia Director.

My role as the BID Zambia Director is to lead the team in implementation, which includes working with key stakeholders to define priority activities, as well as managing day-to-day operations, and reporting regularly on progress and problems to the Global Director. I am also the leading representative for the BID Initiative in Zambia and work very closely with the global team to ensure that we are aligned with overall efforts.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? I always wanted to be a medical doctor, thrilled by what they were doing, even when there was no doctor yet in our nuclear, nor extended, family.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? Flying a jet fighter. I love its speed.

What’s your favorite outdoor activity? Playing football.

What is your proudest accomplishment? Falling in love and marrying my beautiful wife Kombe.

What was the last experience that made you a stronger person? A few years ago while in a rural part of Zambia, our vehicle developed a mechanical fault in the middle of nowhere. All of the food and water ran out the same day. For the next three days, we slept around a fire, drank water from a stream, and survived on roasted mushroom. The rescue team only arrived on the fifth day. This experience taught me a lot about survival and a spirit of not giving up when faced by a challenging situation.
