The BID Learning Network (BLN) invites you to view a webinar entitled “Immunization Data Management Systems: Challenges and Perspectives from Cameroon.”

In this webinar, our speaker shared lessons learned from the process of developing and implementing the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) Data Management System in Cameroon.  The presentation explains the tools that were applied, the actors at play, and the approach taken.  Our speaker discussed the challenges encountered during the process and changes made to overcome them by highlighting critical areas of prioritization. This webinar should be of interest to health information systems and data management specialists as well as healthcare practitioners committed to improving health information systems in the African context.

PRESENTER INFORMATION

Mr. Calvin Tonga

Calvin has over 10 years’ experience in public health data management where he has held various public health portfolios including vaccination, epidemiological surveillance and health information management at operational, intermediate and national levels of the health pyramid in Cameroon.  He was a focal point person in public health activities in the ​​Mouanko region from 2007 to 2011; Head of Pouma District Health Office from 2011 to 2012, and then became Data Manager and Surveillance focal point at the Expanded Program on Immunization in Littoral Region up to 2016.  Calvin is currently the Head of the EPI Data Management and Validation Unit at the Ministry of Public Health in Yaoundé, Cameroon where he oversees the collection, analysis, organization, consolidation and dissemination of data.  He also provides staff training through workshops, supervision, and monitoring.  Calvin holds a Master Degree in Public Health and is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Douala.

Dr. Chilunga Puta

Chilunga Puta, Director of the BLN, is an infectious disease research and public health practitioner with an excess of 20 years of experience working in developing country health care settings. She has held diverse technical and administrative positions that have enabled her to acquire a wide range of skills and in-depth understanding of developing economy health care systems. Dr. Puta holds BSc joint honours in Biochemistry and Microbiology, a PhD in Biochemistry, an MPH with a major in Disease Surveillance, an MBA (Law) and is a Certified Quality Improvement Associate of the American Society for Quality.
