The Health Resources and Services Administration and All Kids Count (a national technical assistance center fostering development of integrated child health information systems) have been working together to foster development of integrated child health information systems.
Activities have included: identification of key elements for successful integration of systems; development of principles and core functions for the systems; a survey of state and local integration efforts; and a conference to develop a common vision for child health information systems to meet medical care and public health needs.We provide 1 state (Utah) as an example that is well on the way to development of integrated child health information systems.

To deliver better health care at a lower cost, health information technology (IT) should be redesigned to support improved, patient-centered care and not the isolated tasks of physicians and clinicians. This new approach has major policy implications: health IT can help mitigate the worsening shortages of physicians; it will require managers, clinicians, and patients to learn new skills and behaviors; it will increase the need for clinically astute systems analysts, business-process managers, and human-factors engineers; and it will highlight the need to pay for process improvements and improved patient well-being rather than the mere purchase of health IT.Jan 1, 2008

Dissemination, Diffusion, and Scale Up of Family Health Innovations in Low-Income Countries
In this report, we present the AIDED model for guiding dissemination, diffusion, and scale up of family health innovations in low-income countries. The model was developed using in-depth interviews with experts and practitioners, a systematic review of peer-reviewed and gray literature, and pressure testing with multiple audiences. The AIDED model posits five interrelated components to the complex process of scale up: 1) assess, 2) innovate, 3) develop, 4) engage, and 5) devolve. We identify key activities in the five components that have been linked to successful scale-up efforts of selected family health innovations: Depo-Provera, exclusive breastfeeding, community health worker approaches, and social marketing.Dec 6, 2010
A policy framework for accelerating adoption of new vaccines
Rapid uptake of new vaccines can improve health and wealth and contribute to meeting Millennium Development Goals. In the past, however, the introduction and use of new vaccines has been characterized by delayed uptake in the countries where the need is greatest. Based on experience with accelerating the adoption of Hib, pneumococcal and rotavirus vaccines, we propose here a framework for new vaccine adoption that may be useful for future efforts. The framework organizes the major steps in the process into a continuum from evidence to policy, implementation and finally access. It highlights the important roles of different actors at various times in the process and may allow new vaccine initiatives to save time and improve their efficiency by anticipating key steps and actions.Jump in.
