BLN/Gavi Data Quality and Use Collaborative Meeting Report: Lusaka, 3-5 March 2020

The BID Learning Network (BLN)/Gavi Data Quality and Use (DQU) Collaborative convened a learning session for Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) representatives and data managers from member countries between March 3-5, 2020 in Lusaka, Zambia. The learning session gave participants an opportunity to interact with their peers and share insights around their respective country immunization information systems, data use practices, and the lessons they have learned. The meeting also provided a platform for a rich exchange of knowledge, experiences, and ideas in support of improved immunization data quality and use. The full meeting report is now available.

The BID Learning Network invites you to watch a webinar panel discussion on “Capacity Building for DQU Collaborative Countries.” Global and national stakeholders have acknowledged that routine immunization programs face significant challenges related to the collection, analysis, availability, and use of data for planning, management and improvement of program performance. To address these data challenges, the World Health Organization (WHO) worked with HISP to develop a DHIS2 data quality application suitable for countries.

Since 2014, the BID Learning Network (BLN) has hosted learning exchanges, webinars, system demonstrations, and rich dialogues about digital and data solutions as a collaborative, country-owned peer learning network. Recently, the BLN expanded its scope to provide a set of holistic services that leverage our deep expertise, and those of partners on the design, implementation, and scale-up of digital and data solutions for routine health data. Our expanded commitment to peer learning will include advisory, capacity building, and knowledge management services for countries hoping to improve their own health information systems.

It was attended by 25 participants, including immunization data managers from Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, The Gambia, Uganda, and Zambia. Introducing the BLN/Gavi Data Quality and Use (BLN DQU) Collaborative

The BID Learning Network (BLN) is partnering with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, to work with Gavi countries to improve data quality and use through peer learning and interaction, coupled with collective analysis and resolution of immunization data-related problems. The peer interaction and learning activities will be conducted virtually using different formats, including webinars, problem-solving sessions, panel discussions, debates and training, as appropriate. Continuous interaction between peers will be facilitated through WhatsApp groups and other social media channels. The countries will function as a collaborative, collectively setting desired performances and strategies to achieve these desired levels of performance. The BLN/Gavi Data Quality and Use (BLN DQU) Collaborative will work with partners, such as the World Health Organization (WHO), to identify opportunities for learning and capacity building among country personnel managing immunization data in their countries. A critical part of this work will include monitoring and documenting the experiences and lessons that arise out of this collaborative. Learn more about the BLN DQU Collaborative.

Over the past five years, the PATH staff based in Africa that made up the BID team have gained significant experience in the implementation of data quality and use interventions to improve immunization service delivery. This includes deep knowledge about the holistic design, introduction, adoption, and scale up and sustainability of digital interventions. BID will leverage this experience, in partnership with the BID Learning Network, to introduce a BID Regional Mentorship program. The BID Regional Mentorship program will support African countries as they work to select, introduce, and implement digital health and change management interventions to improve their routine immunization programs.
