BLN Webinar | Cultivating a Data Use Culture: Lessons Learned from the BID Initiative
The BID Learning Network invites you to a webinar presentation titled “Cultivating a Data Use Culture: Lessons Learned from the BID Initiative.”
Global and national stakeholders have acknowledged that routine immunization programs face significant challenges related to the collection, availability, and use of data for planning, management, and improvement of program performance. To address these critical data challenges, the BID Initiative worked with the governments of Tanzania and Zambia, to introduce a suite of interventions at facility and district levels. In this webinar, learn from the speakers about their journey to build a data use culture from a facility to national level, and how lack of data use interventions may result in missed opportunities for program performance improvements. The presenters will also share insights into the specific interventions that were used by the BID Initiative to complement the electronic immunization registries to strengthen active data use practices.
This webinar will be of interest to data management specialists, Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) managers, health management information system (HMIS) specialists, and other health care specialists committed to improving data collection, quality and use across health systems.

PRESENTERS:
| Masaina Bwakya
Masaina Bwakya is the Change Management Lead with the BID Initiative. Her role includes spearheading the implementation of all change management and quality improvement efforts for the initiative in Southern Province, Zambia. She holds a Master of Science Degree in Project Management, a BA in Development Studies and a Higher Diploma in Information Systems. Her area of interest in immunization is data visualization, which helps to show trends and tell stories about generated data that enables health workers to make better decisions for better health outcomes. |
| Daines Mgidange
Daines Mgidange is a Change Management Officer with the BID Initiative in Tanzania. She has more than eight years of experience working with local and international non-governmental organizations in supporting communities on health, natural resources and education issues. Daines has demonstrated her technical expertise by assisting healthcare workers capture and use immunization data for evidence-based decisions. She coordinated the implementation of change management interventions in four regions of Tanzania in the BID Initiative’s quest to create a culture of data use among healthcare workers across the various levels of the health system. Under the BID Initiative, she has been part of the designing, testing, and implementation process, which has further strengthened her change management skills. Daines holds a MA in Environmental Science and Policy from Clark University, USA. |
Catherine Muyawala
Catherine Muyawala, the BID Learning Network Community Coordinator, is a knowledge management specialist with more than 20 years of experience in information management, including coordinating communities of practice. She has held various knowledge management related portfolios in diverse sectors, including public health. Catherine holds a BA in Library and Information Science and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA).
