Henry Mwanyika

The BID Initiative team works across three countries in the United States, Tanzania, and Zambia. This week, we learn more about Henry Mwanyika, BID Tanzania Director.

In my role, I’m responsible for BID Initiative implementation in Tanzania, providing both technical and financial oversight of all streams of work, developing overall strategy and direction, maintaining key relationships with in-country partners, and ensuring the team has everything they need to effectively deliver their work.

What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done? I had to leave the country for seven months to go back to finish my PhD studies one month after my twin boys were born. It was hard to leave my wife with two tiny babies who can cry nonstop for seven hours.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a chef as I was fascinated with the ability of mixing a few thing and then heating them up and ending up with something tasty.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? To fly the biggest commercial plane.

What is one of your favorite quotes? I am strong believer of teamwork so my favorite quote is: “Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.” —Michael Jordan.

What is your favorite food? Rice and beans cooked in coconut sauce. This will not be complete without nicely cooked meat.
