The BID Initiative team works across three countries in the United States, Tanzania, and Zambia. This week, we learn more about Saumu Juma, Implementation Coordinator in Tanzania.

20160223_125500What is your role on BID? Conducting training sessions for the health workers on the use of data collection tools and using this data to make decisions for better health outcomes.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? I would learn to ride a big motorcycle.

What’s your favorite indoor/outdoor activity? My favorite indoor activity is cooking and when I am outside, I enjoy going for a run in places that have a beautiful scenery and roads with low traffic.

What was the last experience that made you a stronger person? The last experience that made me a stronger person was becoming a mother to my little prince. It was a very big decision and it changed my life completely. Looking at him, I know that I got something in my life perfectly right.

Who is your hero? My hero is my mother (may Allah be pleased with her).  I learnt a great deal from her and she made me the person that I am today. I thank Allah for the time I had with her and I know of the sacrifices she made for me. I appreciate her very much and I miss her every day.

What do you like most about your job? What I like the most about my job is that I finally get to do what I love. I have always had a passion to work in the field and being able to be a part of a development that makes the health workers’ job easier with better results. The challenges, opportunities to learn new things every day, and the interaction is what excites me the most and makes me look forward to another day of work every day.

“It has been great working with Saumu. She is the kind of person who is very committed in her work and willing to learn new things. We are lucky to have her among the Tanzania BID team.” – Oswald Luoga, Senior Implementation Specialist, Tanzania
