Global knowledge sharing: New PATH IDEAL-Vietnam project collaborates with BID Initiative

Vaccinations have saved the lives of more children than any other medical intervention in the past 50 years, and an effective immunization approach is a critical factor in the eradication of disease. To be effective, however, doses must be administered at the appropriate intervals. Prior to 2012, all of Vietnam’s immunization records were paper-based. Time consuming, laborious, prone to errors, and a barrier to efficient vaccine stock management, this system was making it difficult to ensure children and pregnant women were getting the timely protection they needed to defend them from dangerous but preventable diseases.

The power of knowledge sharing: BID launches encyclopedia of lessons spanning five-year journey

They zig and zag, and at times, for every step forward, there are two steps back.  Buoyed by platforms like the BID Learning Network (BLN) and User Advisory Groups, the BID Initiative has embraced adaptive management and iterative, flexible program design that, over the last five years, have translated into many proud wins, some setbacks, and in turn, many lessons learned. In the hopes of sharing these we’ve compiled a comprehensive encyclopedia that documents our learnings throughout every stage of BID’s journey, from the design and testing of data quality and use interventions, on through implementation.

Leading from behind: Celebrating the completion of Arusha and the start of a new chapter in Tanzania

There are 285 facilities actively using interventions aiming to improve data quality and use; 81,735 children registered in Tanzania’s electronic immunization registry (EIR); 672 frontline healthcare workers (HCWs) trained on these interventions; and 48 district immunization mentors (DIMs) appointed, trained, and deployed to support HCWs in the health facilities that provide immunization services. This January, the BID Initiative completed rollout in the first demonstration region of Arusha.
