Project Profile – BID Initiative

Oct 19, 2016

The second half of the 20th century marked a period of great advancement in immunization. As donors and national governments stepped up investments to develop vaccines and strengthen routine immunization programs, infectious diseases that once ravaged much of the world were either wiped out or largely stripped of their devastating impact. The achievements of the past century now read like a laundry list—smallpox eradicated, wild poliovirus is more than 99% eliminated and cases of measles and Hib among children under-five now reduced to record low numbers.

My Reflections: Melinda Gates Visits the BID Initiative

Jul 25, 2016

I was confident in what I was supposed to do since my health facility, Mareu Health Facility in Arusha region Tanzania, was one of six facilities that tested BID Initiative solutions. The BID Initiative is rolling out interventions to 253 health facilities in the Arusha region over the course of this year and into early 2016. Aligning with Partners on Health Data Quality and Use

Mar 17, 2015

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend a meeting in Geneva sponsored by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, to discuss their new data quality and survey requirements for countries. While the meeting focused on the communication of these requirements to countries and how to support them to meet them, the topic of how to address the overall need to improve data quality and data use (and not merely assessing it at the country level) was also continually highlighted.
