Connecting in the time of COVID-19

Jul 2, 2020

Progress toward health equity relies on strong connections with governments, with communities, and with individuals. We cannot design new approaches without making these communities and individuals central to the design process. We cannot test new products without their feedback. And we cannot extend the reach of health services without their participation.

BLN offers virtual platform for peer learning as countries square off against COVID-19

May 27, 2020

On a Thursday last month, the Zoom line crackled with greetings and introductions. BID Learning Network (BLN) members from more than a dozen different countries and professional backgrounds convened for a webinar presentation about the application of electronic immunization registries (EIRs) to the COVID-19 pandemic. The webinar, which opened with two presentations from Pakistan and Tanzania, was followed by a discussion about maintaining immunization services even as many countries struggle to curb COVID-19. Countries shared challenges, their early lessons from the pandemic, and their concerns for the coming months. It was a chance to talk candidly with peers about a rapidly evolving outbreak that has gripped every corner of the globe.

Countries gather in Lusaka for BID Learning Network meeting to strengthen digital and data capacity

Mar 24, 2020

For Silemane Ouedraogo, an Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) Data Manager in Burkina Faso, one of the most beneficial parts of the BID Learning Network (BLN) is the opportunity to learn from his peers about the digital health systems and technologies that have worked in their own countries. As countries figure out how to make use of limited resources for their health systems, this country engagement is irreplaceable.

Dr. Eddie Mukooyo: BID Learning Network member recounts camaraderie, opportunity of peer learning

Nov 27, 2018

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. This is how Dr. Eddie Mukooyo Sefuluya, a BID Learning Network (BLN) member and Chairperson for the Uganda AIDS Commission, describes the peer learning network that for the last five years has tackled some of the most complex challenges facing health information systems—and developed its most promising solutions. The BLN comprises more than 20 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. BID Learning Network participants trade experiences and share learnings in Santiago, Chile

Sep 1, 2017

Last week, BID Learning Network (BLN) participants traveled to South America, trading their home countries for a new backdrop. What first struck me about Chile, a narrow country bordered by the South Pacific Ocean to the West, Argentina to the East and its northern neighbors of Peru and Bolivia, were its expansive green spaces. In Parque Forestal, in central Santiago, street lamps line the pathways, and bicyclists and pedestrians weave between the public monuments. In Parque Quinta Normal, an enormous glass greenhouse sits at the middle of the park. Public parks are everywhere in Chile, a testament to the country’s commitment to health promotion and community.
